As crazy as it sounds some people did agree to this by accessing a Free Wireless Internet connection setup in London.
In a recent experiment carried out by F-Secure, Londoners agreed to give away their firstborn child in exchange for free WiFi!
F-Secure setup the WiFi hotspot offering free WiFi and Internet in Canary Wharf to see who would agree to a “Herod Clause” set out in the terms and conditions. Within thirty minutes, 33 people attempted to connect, and six people unwittingly agreed to “render their eldest child for the duration of eternity.”
Fortunately this was only an experiment so the children are safe and F-Secure have since disabled the Wireless network.
However this just goes to show that people are just not reading the terms and conditions set out to allow access to connections such as “Free Wireless Networks” It also goes to show that although this network was un-advertised people are always looking for free WiFi and the means to connect to the internet without using costly data connections.
Fortunately the terms and conditions set out in the Wireless networks provided by Elephant WiFi do not ask you to give up your first born, we are kept busy looking after our own children! We do however politely ask for access to specific information contained within your Facebook or Twitter profile or ask that you fill in a short form providing your name and email address.
Just be careful what you are agreeing to and remember, as boring as they may seem ALWAYS read the T&C’s.
